BOLL WEEVIL PILLAGE
In 1914, the cotton industry was devastated by an infestation of boll weevils, swarming from eastern Texas. Cotton fields all throughout the south were ravaged by the tiny flying insects. Cotton farmers were done for, being left with far too little material to sell and trade. This invasion helped the migration progress greatly, as this left countless black farm workers without jobs or pay, they looked north for new opportunities and better jobs.
