NEGRITUDE
With the recent change in environment, blacks were immersed in a new, industrial world. With fresh ideas flourishing around them, African Americans shared a loss of identity. They tried to regain a sense of who they were by searching for a term that would express them and their anguish. Poet, Aimé Césaire, came to the rescue with the word “negritude”. The term celebrated African Americans and expressed that black was beautiful. This term became synonymous for the new movement in literature, as that was the main focus of the works.
